The Flåmsbana is a train with wheel/rail adhesion, which takes passengers 866m up in 46min, along the edge of Aurlandsfjord, defying gradients of up to 55%. Needless to say, the landscapes on the way up are absolutely spectacular: waterfalls, views over the fjord, prairies! The museum (free entry) gives visitors an insight into the history of the construction of one of the steepest railway lines in the world. It is possible to get back down by bike (transport by train costs a supplement) or on foot (5hr), or to continue by train to Bergen.
