A steam engine, beam engines, Rolls-Royce aircraft engines and a variety of steel parts provide an insight into Derby's traditional local industries. The museum occupies a silk mill in which the bell and barn are all that remain of the original building. Dating back to 1718, it claims to be the first factory ever built in England.
