More than a square, this is an esplanade; quite austere, it is dominated by the Romanesque façade of the Duomo (11C-15C) on one side and the bishop's palace on the other, beside the ramparts. From here, you get a fine view over the valley, to the left, and Monte Sant'Egidio, to the right, which you would never guess peaks at over 1 000m.
