Three islands are dotted about the lake: Isola Polvese, to the southeast, with an experimental olive grove, Isola Maggiore, to the north, opposite Tuoro, and Isola Minore. The first two can be reached by ferry. A cycle path runs around the lake, on the northern part, from Castiglione del Lago (visit the Palazzo della Corgna to see its Mannerist frescoes) to Torricella via Passignano. A little further along you can explore the Oasi Naturalistica La Valle, a protected wetland, where many birds and animals find refuge.
