The mighty wall surrounding the old town, the urban centre of the former Castelgenovese, is interspersed with bastions and towers. Within the upper fortified city, narrow and steep roads intersect, punctuated by the arches of gates, endless stairs and, here and there, craft and souvenir shops. But in this labyrinth, all you have to do is look up and cast your eye beyond the roofs and bastions to find the sea... and your sense of direction.
