The cathedral was built in the early 12C in the Norman style (all that remains of it is the truncated nave and the right arm of the transept); it was then extended over subsequent centuries. Note the 13C bay window on the façade, a fine example of Decorated-style interlacing with stained-glass windows from the 14C. The choir boasts a fine set of sculptured capitals and a remarkable ceiling decorated with stars (1360) on a blue background. In the transept, the 16C Brougham Triptych is a masterpiece of the Flemish School.
