Established in 1948, the 320-acre park protects a large grove of myrtlewoods (Oregon myrtles), those trees prized by woodworkers and found only in southern Oregon and Northern California. A trail leads through this grove and along the scenic Chetco River-note the camphor aroma of the trees, especially if you crush a leaf. The eastern end of the 1mi trail connects to the Redwood Nature Trail in Siskiyou National Forest, a 1mi loop through the northernmost natural stand of the world's tallest tree species.
