From the viewpoint indicator to the east of Cours Dajot, you will enjoy a superb view over Brest Harbour, from the mouth of the Elorn to the headland of Portzic. This vast harbour (184km2), between 12m and 20m deep on large expanses, leads to the ocean via a 1.5km bottleneck with steep banks. The Fort de Portzic and the man-made harbour, the Rade de Landion ("rade-abri"), are situated opposite, on the Brest bank, ahead of the castle. Bounded by sea walls, it serves as military harbour.
