It was on the Tempelberg, the highest point (107m) on the island of Rügen-Est, that Prince Wilhelm Malte 1 von Putbus had a hunting lodge built in 1837 in neo-Gothic style. This imposing construction, with its round crenellated towers, stands in the heart of the Granitz forest. A belvedere 38m high was erected in 1844 in the inner courtyard. The 154 steps of the spiral wrought-iron staircase lead to a platform boasting a superb view of Rügen island.
