In the heart of the Greater Târnava Valley, between Sibiu and Sighisoara, Biertan is a superb village. Its late Gothic church (1493-1522), protected behind sturdy ramparts, is the last Gothic hall-church built in the country. It boasts a remarkable painted altarpiece (1524), attributed to Ulrich from Braşov.
