Bad Münstereifel lies at the entrance to the Eifel plateau, the largest and most complex of the Rhineland schist massifs. The average altitude of this undulating plateau, severed by deep valleys, is over 600m. It consists of four zones: the Upper Eifel (Hocheifel), which features a volcanic landscape, the rugged, isolated Schnee-Eifel, the North Eifel, covered in moors and forests and the narrow valleys of the South Eifel. The Ahr vineyards are famous for their dark-red wines.
