Built in the second half of the 12C, Ávila cathedral is a good example of religious and military architecture (it is part of the town's fortifications). Its austere exterior contrasts with the fine interior, which boasts colourful sandstone in the choir and many works of art. Among them note the Baroque trascoro (the wall behind the chancel), the 76 choir stalls, the two pulpits, and El Tostado's tomb. The Sacristy is crowned by a superb eight-ribbed vault. Don't miss the beautiful Gothic cloisters.
