The viaduct is an elegant and audacious work. It was designed by engineer Léon Boyer and constructed by Gustave Eiffel. It was thanks to the experience he gained at Garabit (1880-84) that the latter was able to design and build his famous 300m-high tower in Paris (1889). Today, the viaduct has been repainted its original red colour. When night falls it lights up and looks even more impressive.
