The Westergasfabriek is the city's latest creative and leisure hub. The extraordinary neo-Renaissance brick buildings of this former gasworks (1883) have been transformed into a huge multipurpose cultural centre. Bars, restaurants, a cinema and art galleries are now located within its walls and many temporary events are held here (concerts, festivals, exhibitions etc). The surrounding gardens of the Westerpark encourage visitors to linger here.
