At the top of the climb, the highest point of Mt Caroux itself (1,091m) appears on the left. Then the crossing of a vast plateau where heather and broom quiver in the wind begins. In the silence that envelops this solitary expanse, you reach the viewpoint indicator, leaving the Plo de la Maurelle to the right. A grandiose panoramic view unfolds: from west to east over the rounded summits of the Montagne Noire, where the Pic de Nore looms over the Pyrenees with the Pic Carlit and the Canigou; then the plains of Narbonne and Béziers as far as the Mediterranean come into view.
