Cornelia Fischer, who heads up the kitchen at the fine dining restaurant of the splendid Althoff Seehotel Überfahrt, is by no means a newcomer to the establishment. Having served as chef de partie here years ago and following her recent role as head chef in the kitchens of Zur Schwane in Volkach, she is back, putting a contemporary spin on classic cuisine. Excellent ingredients – such as the ultra-fresh carabinero, beautifully seared to a translucent finish, with wonderful roasted notes and an elegant flavour profile – are used to create two set menus, one of which is vegetarian, both comprising four to six courses. The sleek and stylish interior design is also appealing, and service is provided by a delightfully laid-back and adept team. The ever-present, very attentive restaurant manager Johannes Gahberger deserves a mention here, as does sommelier Marie Christine Baunach, who provides thoughtful advice when it comes to wine. Tip: book the Chef's Table – every first Thursday evening of the month, a four-course menu is offered directly in the kitchen.
