The Terracotta Army has become as famous as the Great Wall of China. Discovered in 1974, these thousands of life-size clay soldiers, either on foot or on horseback, watch over the imperial necropolis of the first emperor of China, Qin Shi Huangdi, who ordered their production. According to records of the time, it took around 700 000 artisans nearly forty years to achieve the emperor's dream.
