Dotted with marshes, large lakes and rivers, this hilly park owes its unique character to its geographical position halfway between southern and northern Canada. The southern boreal plains are home to bison, coyote, badger and ground squirrel, while the boreal forest to the north is home to wolf, moose, elk, black bear, beaver, red fox and caribou. The Lac Lavallée region, at the extreme north of the park, is home to the second largest colony of white pelicans in North America.
