The Smithsonian American Art Museum houses the oldest Federal collection of art. Its holdings run the gamut of American art from early-18C portraiture and 19C landscapes to the huge montage of screens and neons that represent the country's motorway network (Nam June Paik, 1995). Set up in a large, Greek Revival-style building, it is connected to the National Portrait Gallery.
