Vitoria-Gasteiz has a remarkable medieval district; it is made up of little pedestrian streets, lively squares - such as the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca, the nerve centre of the city - and more confined, quieter spaces, such as the Plaza del Machete, and Los Arquillos, a string of arcades that connect the upper town to the lower town. Here, visitors will find palaces, noble houses, churches and the Gothic cathedral, as well as numerous museums.
