The black rocks of Dyrhólaey, Iceland's southernmost cape, jut out into the ocean and create a magnificent basalt arch in the blue or grey waves. It is perhaps this very arch that drew Kari here: the son-in-law of the hero in the Saga of Burnt Njáll. The cliffs are home to vast colonies of seabirds, including puffins and guillemots. You can see them if you follow the coastal path (access via the car park - closed in May and June during nesting season).
