This beautiful Renaissance palace, the Seat of the Prefecture, was designed by Sansovino in 1533 for Giorgio Corner, brother of the Queen of Cyprus, Caterina Corner. Note how every detail contributes to highlighting the family's power: the foundations with bossages, the colossal arcades and the stout columns on the upper floors. The interior mirrors this intention and the reception rooms were covered in works by Titian and Tintoretto, now exhibited at the Accademia.
