With its crescent-shaped towers and mushroom like council chamber, City Hall, completed in 1965, was the symbol of Toronto until supplanted by the iconic CN Tower and Rogers Centre. The spacious Nathan Phillips Square (named after a former mayor) with its wide, arch-lined pool attracts crowds of ice-skaters in winter. Occupying the east side of the square, Old City Hall, designed by Toronto-born Edward J. Lennox, houses the provincial courts.
