If heading for Mount Batur, or just seeking an outing around Ubud, this lovely road heading northeast runs through a verdant landscape of shimmering rice paddies. It is also a chance to see charming temples (Pura Gunung Kawi Sebatu, Tirta Empul), a major archaeological site, Mount Kawi, and villages renowned for their wood craft: Tegallalang, Pujung (fruits et flowers in painted wood) and Ceking (sculptures), from where the panoramic view of the Petanu Valley is not to be missed.
