The character of the old town appears from the Rhine. The right bank is lined in handsome half-timbered houses whose lower sections are immersed in water. The Town Hall square and main street are a riot of picturesque flower-decked fountains and oriels in the houses, the painted façades of which are evocative of their names: Inn of the Sun, House of the Pelican, House of the White Eagle.
