Originally built by Russians in the 1840s it was destroyed in a fire in 1966. With temperatures below zero, there was little water to fight the fire, so townspeople formed a human chain to save the treasured religious objects treasured. They then raised enough funds to build an exact duplicate of the cathedral, this one with fireproof materials.
