Facing the Bund, this building (1923) was built by one of the three largest banks in the world (the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation). It is a marvel of interior architecture with its mosaics and frescoes, high-end furniture, cubic chandeliers and Art Deco lamps. Today the Shanghai Pudong Development Bank has made its home in this opulent setting.
