Inspired by the movement to abolish slavery, the first Women's Rights Convention met here in 1848 in an attempt to extend equal rights to women. Today, a national historic park comprises several diverse sites important to the history of women's rights, including the home of movement leader Elizabeth Cady Stanton. The visitor center stands at its heart, offering detailed and thoughtful exhibits about historic and contemporary women's issues.
