All that remains of 17C Sendai castle, destroyed by bombing in 1945, are an outer stone wall and a few ruins dotted over a terrace which majestically rises above the town. Built at the top of Mount Aoba, the site strategically overlooks gorges and the river. Fascinating small museum.
