Dedicated to Demeter Malophoros, goddess of plants and protector of farmers, the sanctuary is reached by a path that forms a extension of the first cardo of the acropolis. It stood within a sacred enclosure (temenos) on the other bank of the River Modione, the maritime and business section of the city.
