Off the town of Seahouses is the small archipelago of the Farne Islands, an ornithological reserve. The islands, 15 to 28 of them depending upon the tide, provide nesting sites for 18 species of seabirds. They are also home to the largest British colony of grey seals. Landing is permitted on Inner Farne.
