Laid out between 1758 and 1796 by the architect Nicolas de Pigage from Lorraine, these 72-ha gardens combine the formal perspective of French gardens with the more relaxed style of the 18C, a time when natural landscapes and artificial monuments such as ruins and temples became fashionable.
