Stop at Sayíl on the Puuc road to admire the beautiful Gran Palacio in golden pink stone of elegant, ample proportions. Built on three-tiered levels accessed on a wide staircase, it boasts the rare feature of openings enlarged by columns with capitals. The large number of bedrooms (no less than 99) suggest that it was the seat of power of a large city - a dependency of Uxmal, thought to have contained up to 15 000 inhabitants.
