In the austere Romanesque-Gothic style, the chancel is decorated with 17 frescoes created in 1464-1465 by a Florentine maestro, Benozzo Gozzoli. The fresh colours, the sense of perspective, the intimate and familiar details come together to tell the life of St Augustine.
