This former church of a Cistercian abbey is typical of the Rhenish style. Construction began in 1218 in the Romanesque-Gothic transitional style and it was restored in the 19C by Cuypers. You will notice features that are characteristic of Rhenish buildings: the clover leaf floor plan of the eastern part, with the transept arms ending in semi-circles, the exterior gallery of the apse, the roofing of the towers and turrets, in a mitre shape, and the Lombard band decoration.
