Recent renovations have catapulted the Farnsworth Art Museum from its status as a modest regional gallery to a nationally acclaimed centre for the study of Maine artists, particularly the three generations of Wyeth painters - Newell Convers, Andrew and Jamie - who found inspiration in the state's rural and coastal landscapes. The Wyeth Center, an old white clapboard Methodist church, is home to hundreds of canvases by all three painters.
