Many hiking opportunities await you in Lónsöræfi nature reserve, setting off from the refuge on site or on a one-day excursion from the Stafafell youth hostel. More remote, less frequented, this walkers' paradise has just as much to offer as Skaftáfell. Irregular reliefs, canyons, chasms, unexpected colours, ice tongues, herds of reindeer mean you will have plenty to occupy long days out walking.
