To the north, at the summit of the island of Sfaktiria (152m above sea level), Mt Ilias is dominated by a Spartan fort that was remodelled in the Middle Ages. Accessible via a path (30min - you'll need walking boots), it affords a 360° view over the Ionian Sea, the harbour and the 150m-wide Sykia Pass, which separates the island from the Gialova Lagoon.
