Ferrys run between this modest island from Catawba Point and Port Clinton, making for a pleasant journey. Part of a cluster of Lake Erie islands that played a part in the War of 1812, South Bass is located northwest of Sandusky, Ohio. The 19C seaside resort village of Put-in-Bay, on the north shore, is the island's commercial hub. Thirty caves, carved out by erosion over millions of years, are the island's most remarkable natural site.
