The historical quarter was the working centre of town until the 19C. It burned down in 1760; many of the fine wooden houses therefore date from the late 18C and early 19C. Ochre-red warehouses, once stacked high with goods, still line the river. Take a stroll around the winding cobbled streets and get a taste of life in the old quarter, whose arts and crafts shops draw the crowds.
