The emblematic tower, situated between Piazza della Repubblica and Piazza del Duomo, was once part of the wall known as the war-guard (or Cacciaguerra). Built in the 14C, on the orders of Castruccio Castracani, through the middle of the town, it was intended to put an end to the incessant battling between the Guelf and Ghibelline districts.
