One is seated on a throne, another beneath a parasol, another is erect with arms crossed, while the last reclines with his head on a pillow. Gal Vihara, a temple outside the walls of Polonnaruwa, is home to colossal carved statues depicting the key periods of the life of Buddha. This sculptural masterpiece is fervently worshipped by Buddhists.
