The façade of San Michele in Borgo demonstrates a remarkable transition between the Pisan Romanesque and Gothic styles. Note the three rows of galleries with trefoiled pointed arches and colonnades decorated with masks, a sharp contrast with the robust lower section where, unlike most of the churches in Pisa, there is no blind arcading.
