Irrigated by the River Bistrita, the region lies to the south of Bukovina. Like its neighbour, this western Moldavian region has monasteries (Varatec, Agapia, Neamt...) set in a pleasant landscape, an ideal backdrop for the contemplative life. Covered in forest and pastureland, Neamt's rolling hills are relatively undiscovered and retain a timeless quality. Traditions remain very much alive, as explained in the Popa museum in Târgu Neamt.
