North Inch was the site of the bloody Clan battle fought here in 1396 between 30 champions of the Chattan and Kay Clans, the tale of which was related by Scott in The Fair Maid of Perth. Robert III and the Queen were present, housed in the adjoining Dominican monastery which once stood at the southern end of the park. This 50-ha park along the west bank of the River Tay is today mainly given over to sports. Note the dome of the Bell Sports Centre built in 1978.
