This palace was built at the time of the short-lived Kingdom of Majorca (1276-1344), founded by James I the Conqueror for his youngest son, James II. The Tour de l'Hommage leads to the parade ground with its two storeys of galleries. Note the fine ceiling painted in Catalan colours in the queen's chamber. You reach the upper chapel via a Romanesque portal with alternating blue and pink marble arches. Above the royal chapels is the keep, the palace's unassailable bastion.
