General Pierre Daumesnil, born in this 18C house at N°7 on 27 July 1776, followed Napoleon to Arcola in Egypt and then to Wagram, where he lost a leg. In 1814, when ordered to leave Place de Vincennes by the allies, Daumesnil famously said that he would only surrender Vincennes if he was given his leg back.
