The largest date plantation in the southern hemisphere produces the giant date variety Medjhul, which is sold locally and internationally. Karsten Farm also grows grapes, which are harvested in November-December, some four months earlier than elsewhere in the country. The heart of the estate lies in a spectacular natural setting between the Red mountains and the Orange River (offering the appealing prospect of a swim).
