Bearing witness to a large Jewish community in Pécs, the synagogue was built in 1869, replacing an older one dating from 1843. There is an Angster organ inside, as well as carved furniture and painted decoration. Of the 30 000 Jews deported from Pécs by the Nazis, barely 3 000 returned.
