Europe's first opera house, it was built in 1737, before La Scala and La Fenice. Completely ravaged by fire in 1816, it was rebuilt as before within six months, except for the fabulous Royal Box. The horseshoe-shaped auditorium is six storeys high and has 184 boxes. Thanks to its perfect acoustics and large stage, it is one of Italy's foremost music venues.
